UBA unveils winners for its national essay competition

UBA Ghana Limited has unveiled its winners for the 2022 UBA National Essay Competition (UBANEC) yesterday, January 23, 2023.

The initiative by UBA is aimed at encouraging students in the secondary cycle in Ghana and across Africa to enhance their writing skills.

Geneveive Bud of the Ghana International School emerged the overall winner with a whooping sum of $5000, following Kenrich Nii Nakai Nettey of the Presbyterian Boys’ Secondary School, Legon emerging 2nd place with a prize of $3000 and Cecilia Akye of the Methodist Girls’ Senior High School, Mamfe emerging 3rd place with a sum of $2000 and an educational grant to any African University of their choice.

Managing Director of UBA Ghana Limited, Chris Ofikulu says UBA expects to see a brighter future for the upcoming youths in the Ghanaian educational system.

“UBA Foundation believes that the future of Africa lies in its youths. For this reason, the foundation has spent huge sums of money to actively facilitate educational projects and bridge the literacy upon a Pan-Africa scale” he asserted.

Moreover, Director for General Administration at the Education Ministry, Catherine Agyapomaa Appiah Pinkrah applauded all finalists of the UBA National Essay Competition and called on private businesses to emulate UBS’s contribution in promoting teaching and learning under the Education Strategic Plan (ESP).

All 10 shortlisted winners also received medals and certificate for their participation.
