63% of Guinness Ghana’s Raw Materials Sourced Locally in 2023

Guinness Ghana Breweries Plc, the leading total beverage business in Ghana and a subsidiary of Diageo PLC has revealed that it sources a total of 63% of its raw materials locally in 2023 under its Local Raw Material (LRM).

This has been a leapfrog jump from the previous record of sourcing 12% of raw materials locally in 2012, the company says the commitment to sourcing raw materials locally supports income, jobs and stimulates the local economy.

The LRM initiative currently has 11 aggregators, 377,872 farmers and their dependants and has created 19,828 indirect jobs.

In the past 62 years of operation in Ghana, Guinness has placed priority on sourcing and producing locally which has resulted in the exponential rise in sourcing local raw materials.

The company’s official website states that it is committed to sourcing above 70% local raw materials for brewing.

Guinness Ghana continues to expand its agricultural commitment through its farmer network, working with over 30,000 farmers through regenerative farmer programmes designed to boost productivity and provide skills training and tools for development.

The company currently produces, Guinness Stout, Malta Guinness, Star Bear, ABC Bear, Origin Bear, Smirnoff Ice and Johnnie Walker among others and remains the only Ghanaian total beverage business listed on the Ghana Stock Exchange.
