Nigeria aims to join BRICS and become part of the G20

Nigeria plans to join the BRICS economic bloc within the next two years and become a member of the G20 group of nations, as reported by Bloomberg.

As per the report, this decision is a strategic foreign policy move by Nigeria to enhance its influence within influential global political and economic organizations.

Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar explained that Nigeria is ripe to decide for herself the multi-lateral organizations she aligns with.

“Nigeria has come of age to decide for itself who her partners should be and where they should be, being multiple aligned is in our best interest,” he said.

The Minister highlighted that Nigeria qualifies for membership in organizations such as BRICS and G20, citing the country’s substantial economy and population size as fitting criteria.

“We need to belong to groups like BRICS, like the G-20 and all these other ones because if there’s a certain criterion, say the largest countries in terms of population and economy should belong, then why isn’t Nigeria part of it?” he added.
