Seplat Energy eyes 14trn cubic feet of untapped gas

Seplat Energy’s Chief Executive Officer, Roger Brown, has highlighted the company’s ambitious plans to unlock an estimated 14 trillion cubic feet (TCF) of untapped natural gas in its newly acquired assets in Akwa Ibom State.

Speaking at the Heirs Energies Leadership Forum 2025 in Abuja, Brown underscored Nigeria’s potential to boost oil and gas production, harness additional reserves, and drive sustainable growth in the energy sector. He reaffirmed Seplat Energy’s commitment to enhancing the country’s energy landscape through increased oil production and expanded domestic gas supply.

“We see tremendous potential in unlocking 14 TCF of untapped gas in our newly acquired assets in Akwa Ibom State and are fully aligned with the government’s vision that every barrel of oil and molecule of gas counts,” Brown stated.

Seplat Energy plans to supply 850 million standard cubic feet (SCF) of gas for domestic and industrial use, targeting key sectors such as power generation, fertilizer production, and liquefied natural gas (LNG). Brown emphasized the company’s role in securing Nigeria’s energy future through sustained investments in safe and efficient operations.

“Nigeria’s energy sector is undergoing a historic transformation with unprecedented divestments, creating new opportunities for growth,” he added.

Seplat Energy, listed on both the Nigerian and London Stock Exchanges, last year acquired Mobil Producing Nigeria Unlimited from ExxonMobil for $1.3 billion, a deal that expands its oil and gas operations across multiple fields and export terminals in Akwa Ibom.
