Deputy Executive Director of UN-Habitat starts his appointment in Nairobi

The United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) is pleased to announce that Michal Mlynár of Slovakia, the Deputy Executive Director, has started his appointments in Nairobi on April 10, 2023. His appointment was announced by the United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres at the end of December 2022. Mlynár has succeeded Victor Kisob of Cameroon.

“His wealth of experience and knowledge in international development will be invaluable in helping us advance our goals and create sustainable urban environments for people”.

With nearly 30 years of experience in senior assignments focused on international organizations, development cooperation, humanitarian aid, and Africa, Mr. Mlynár is well-positioned to help UN-Habitat further its mission of promoting sustainable urban development and adequate housing for all.

During his tenure as Slovakia’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Mr. Mlynár held several positions, including Vice-President of the United Nations Children’s Fund Executive Board, Vice-Chair of the Peacebuilding Commission, and Chair of the Sixth Committee. He also served as Chair of the Committee of Permanent Representatives to UN-Habitat and the President of its Governing Council.

“We are delighted to welcome Mr. Mlynár to UN-Habitat,” said Maimunah Mohd Sharif, the Executive Director of UN-Habitat. “His wealth of experience and knowledge in international development will be invaluable in helping us advance our goals and create sustainable urban environments for people around the world.”

Mr. Mlynár holds PhD and MA degrees from Comenius University in Bratislava, Slovakia, and has also studied in the UK and USA.
