Ghana Tourism Authority Closes Down Villagio Vista
The Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) has closed down Luxury apartment complex Villagio Vista.
According to the Ghana Tourism Authority, the facility does not have an operating license. Consequently the authority has given management 24-hour to allow residents to vacate the premises.
Villaggio is made of the Azure Tower, the Aqua Tower and the Alto Tower, comprising 146 apartments, offices and retail accommodation, a gym, a rooftop terrace and pools with a residents’ bar atop the tallest of the towers.
The GTA’s task force detected the anomaly during the first phase of its nationwide exercise to aimed at closing down illegally operating hospitality and tourism facilities such as hotels, drinking spots, restaurants, movie centres, service apartments, fast food joints among others. The Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Tourism Authority, Akwasi Agyeman told the media that hospitality players who fall below the standard will be sanitized. “It is quite unfortunate that some people will decide that I want to establish a hotel, a hostel, a restaurant, a guest house but will not go through the needed process. “So, we have decided to once again to go and weed them out. All illegal operators that we have, we are embarking on the exercise to weed them out,” Mr Agyeman noted.
He added that those whose standards do not meet the requirement will be given the opportunity to rectify their mistakes. Mr Agyeman further stated that a national taskforce including security officers has been instituted to carry out the operations.
After the task force’s Accra operations which will end on June 7, it will move to Tema from Monday, 10 June to 11 June.
The team will then head for the Central Region from 12 – 14 June; Western Region from 14 – 17 June; Ashanti Region from 18 – 21 June; Brong Ahafo from 22 – 25 June; Eastern Region from 26 – 28 June; and Volta Region from June 29 to July 2.
