Catherine Lesetedi is a prominent leader in the insurance industry, currently serving as the CEO of Botswana Insurance Holdings Limited (BIHL). With a career spanning over three decades, Lesetedi has amassed a wealth of experience and expertise in finance, management, and strategic leadership.

Before assuming the role of CEO at BIHL, she held various senior positions within the company, showcasing her dedication and commitment to its growth and success. Her journey to the top exemplifies her strong work ethic, resilience, and ability to navigate complex business landscapes.

Beyond her role at BIHL, Lesetedi is actively involved in various initiatives aimed at promoting economic development, empowerment, and social impact in Botswana and the wider region. She is a respected figure in the business community, admired for her integrity, professionalism, and dedication to driving positive change.

She holds a BA in Statistics and Demography (University of Botswana), MDP from the graduate school of business (University of Cape Town, as well as professional qualifications in Advanced Insurance Practice and a Diploma in Insurance Studies (UNISA). She has undertaken the Sanlam Executive Leadership Programme through the Gordon Institute of Business Science (July 2014). Catherine is also an Associate of the Insurance Institute of South Africa (AIISA).

In September 2016, she was honoured with the prestigious Africa Investor (Ai) Capital Markets and
Index Series Awards as the “Ai100 CEO of the Year.”

Lesetedi currently serves on the Boards of Funeral Services Group Limited, Bifm Unit Trusts, Botswana Insurance Company Limited, Nico Life, Nico Pensions Company and Nico Holdings in Malawi.

Africa Finance Corporation President & CEO, Samaila Zubairu emerge as InstinctBusiness CEO of the week

His strategic vision and expertise have positioned him as a leading figure in African finance, dedicated to unlocking opportunities and driving positive change across the region.

In his five years as President & CEO of the Africa Finance Corporation, Africa’s leading infrastructure solutions provider has almost tripled investments to $11.5 billion—including the biggest renewable energy acquisition on the continent— and doubled membership to 40 African nations, winning AFC the accolade of DFI of the Year for Europe and Africa at the recent IJGlobal Awards.

As the pioneer CFO for Dangote Cement Plc, Mr. Zubairu launched Africa’s largest syndicated project finance facility for a local corporation and managed the watershed unbundling of Dangote Industries Limited to listed subsidiaries on the Nigerian Stock Exchange.

Most recently, as CEO of Africapital Management Limited, Mr. Zubairu partnered with Old Mutual’s African Infrastructure Investment Managers (AIIM) to develop the Nigerian Infrastructure Investment Fund to drive private equity investment into infrastructure projects across West Africa.

Lafarge Egypt Chief Executive Officer, Jimmy Khan emerge as InstinctBusiness CEO of the week
