Microsoft South Africa hires Vukani Mngxati as New CEO

Microsoft has appointed Vukani Mngxati as the new Chief Executive Officer of Microsoft South Africa

The announcement underscores Microsoft’s three-decade-long commitment to fostering innovation and economic growth in South Africa, with a focus on empowering public and private sector organizations through artificial intelligence (AI) and cloud technologies.

Mngxati, a seasoned leader with over 25 years of experience in enterprise modernization and strategic innovation, steps into the role to spearhead Microsoft’s operations in South Africa. His mandate includes advancing the country’s digital and AI transformation by expanding cloud infrastructure, fostering AI skills development in local communities, and forging partnerships aligned with South Africa’s national development goals.

Mngxati’s leadership is expected to strengthen Microsoft’s role in equipping businesses, government, and civil society with tools to innovate and compete globally while leveraging the company’s robust partner ecosystem.

Previously, Mngxati served as Chief Executive Officer and Board Chairman at Accenture, bringing a wealth of expertise in digital transformation and business leadership. His earlier entrepreneurial ventures and passion for advancing health, education, and employability align closely with Microsoft’s mission to drive inclusive economic growth.

Mngxati succeeds Lillian Barnard, who has transitioned to a new role as Chief of Enterprise Partners for Microsoft Middle East and Africa, where she will focus on accelerating growth with enterprise partners across the region.
