Mouka reaffirms raw material leadership in Africa
Mouka, Nigeria’s leading manufacturer of quality sleep solutions and a proud member of the Dolidol International group, has reiterated its commitment to strengthening Africa’s raw material value chain at the recently concluded Africa Raw Materials Summit 2025, held from May 20 to 22 at the Abuja Continental Hotel.
The summit, themed “Shaping the Future of Africa’s Resource Landscape,” brought together industry trailblazers, policymakers, and innovators to spotlight strategies for optimising the continent’s abundant raw material potential. Mouka, a recognised leader in the sleep industry, stood out as a strategic partner at the event.
Speaking on the importance of the summit, Femi Fapohunda, Managing Director of Mouka Limited, stated: “Mouka is proud to be a key player in Africa’s sleep industry’s raw material value chain. Our footprint extends beyond Nigeria to the rest of Africa and the Middle East, through our holding company, Dolidol. At Mouka, we believe raw materials are more than just inputs — they are the starting point for transformation. That’s why we remain committed to quality, local sourcing, and sustainable innovation — all aimed at building a stronger Africa from the ground up.”
At Mouka’s exhibition stand, summit attendees had the opportunity to explore how the brand transforms locally sourced raw materials into high-quality sleep products through remarkable craftsmanship and forward-thinking technology. Attendees were also offered expert consultations by a certified doctor from the Nigeria Society of Physiotherapy, who was available to address sleep and physiotherapy-related concerns, underscoring Mouka’s holistic approach to wellness and comfort.
Mouka’s leadership presence extended beyond the exhibition floor. Femi Fapohunda participated in an executive panel discussion titled “Africa in the Global Value Chain – Strategic Trade and Positioning,” alongside distinguished leaders, including: Hon. Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed, Minister of Environment, Science, Technology, and Innovation, Ghana (Lead Discussant), Dr. Olasupo Olusi, Managing Director, Bank of Industry, Nonye Ayeni, Executive Director/CEO, Nigerian Export Promotion Council (NEPC) and Olusegun Olutayo, Senior Trade Expert and Lead, Nigeria AfCFTA Coordination Office

During the session, Fapohunda highlighted the urgent need for African countries to collaborate in harnessing the continent’s immense resource wealth. “Africa holds over 60% of the world’s arable land and 40% of key mineral deposits, including lithium essential for renewable energy. Yet, these resources remain underutilised. We must optimise our resources — from preservation of yield to ease of transportation — to enhance global competitiveness,” he emphasised.

The summit organisers specially recognised Mouka’s strategic participation, reaffirming its role as a catalyst in Africa’s industrial evolution. In his acceptance remarks, Fapohunda called for a shift from rhetoric to action: “Africa needs to stop looking to the West for solutions. We have what it takes to succeed—from vast resources to resilient people. It’s time we enact the right laws, implement forward-thinking policies, and foster regional collaborations.
In addition, I urge the government, research institutions, the private sector, and all key stakeholders to ensure the laudable strategies discussed here today don’t remain on paper. Let us commit to action, collaboration, and innovation that can truly transform Africa’s raw material potential into tangible economic and social value ”
Using the Mouka-Dolidol partnership as a model, he underscored the benefits of firm-to-firm relationships that enable shared expertise and expanded market access. With operations already in Morocco, Ethiopia, Uganda, Côte d’Ivoire, and soon Togo, Mouka’s pan-African footprint reflects the advantages of synergistic continental partnerships.
Founded in 1959, Mouka is Nigeria’s foremost manufacturer of high-quality mattresses, pillows, and other sleep solutions. Now a part of the Dolidol International group, Mouka continues to push the boundaries of innovation, sustainability, and local content development in the sleep industry.
