Ecobank Kenya has announced the appointment of Mrs. Rebecca Mbithi as its new Managing Director, subject to final regulatory approval by the Central Bank of Kenya (CBK).

Mrs. Mbithi brings more than two decades of senior executive leadership experience in Kenya’s financial services industry. She is widely recognised for her strong record in strategy execution, large-scale organisational transformation, and consistent delivery of superior performance.

Before this appointment, she served as Chief Executive Officer of Family Bank Ltd, where she successfully led the institution through a significant phase of strategic repositioning, operational strengthening, and market share expansion in a highly competitive environment.
Renowned for her visionary leadership, strategic clarity, and strong advocacy for sustainable and inclusive banking practices, Mrs. Mbithi has consistently delivered measurable value to stakeholders while driving innovation across high-impact roles in the East African banking sector.

Her professional expertise spans corporate governance, enterprise risk management, regulatory compliance, and the development of customer-centric financial solutions.

She takes over leadership of Ecobank Kenya at a pivotal moment when the bank is strongly positioned for accelerated growth and continues to play a central strategic role within the East African Community and across the broader Central, Eastern and Southern Africa (CESA) region.
Mrs. Mbithi succeeds Mrs. Josephine Anan-Ankomah, who has now transitioned to focus exclusively on her regional responsibilities as Regional Executive for CESA, overseeing operations in 17 markets across the region.

The Board and management of Ecobank expressed deep appreciation to Mrs. Anan-Ankomah for her transformational leadership, which significantly strengthened the bank’s market position and operational capabilities in Kenya.

Commenting on the appointment, the Board stated:
“We are confident that Mrs. Rebecca Mbithi’s extensive experience, strategic vision, and deep understanding of the Kenyan and regional financial landscape position her ideally to build on the solid foundation already established and to lead Ecobank Kenya into its next phase of accelerated growth and enhanced regional impact.”
