Safaricom Announces Leadership Changes with Appointment of Edward Okaro as Independent Non-Executive Director

Safaricom PLC has appointed Edward Okaro as an Independent Non-Executive Director, effective January 15, 2025. The announcement came in a notice issued on Thursday, January 16, 2025, underscoring the telecom giant’s commitment to strengthening its governance framework.

Edward Okaro brings over three decades of expertise in financial management, audit, and strategic risk management to the role. His distinguished career includes a remarkable 26-year tenure at Ernst and Young, where he ascended to the positions of Director and later Partner within the Africa Risk Services sector.

In addition to his professional accolades, Okaro is a Fellow Certified Public Accountant (FCPA) affiliated with the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Kenya (ICPAK) and holds membership with the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants (SAICA).
