‎Shell showcases energy Innovations at SPE Conference in Lagos

Shell made a strong impression at the annual international conference of the Nigeria Section of the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE), which opened today in Lagos.

‎The company highlighted its pivotal role in advancing Nigeria’s oil industry through a prominent exhibition and received an award for the Bonga North Final Investment Decision (FID) during the opening ceremony.

‎Shell, one of over 60 exhibitors at the conference, showcased its flagship operations through Shell Nigeria Exploration and Production Company Ltd (SNEPCo), Shell Nigeria Gas (SNG), All On, an impact investment company focused on improving energy access in Nigeria, and Daystar Power, a provider of integrated solar power solutions for businesses across West Africa.

‎The Minister of State for Gas, Ekperikpe Ekpo, led dignitaries on a tour of Shell’s stand, where Senior Production Geologist Abidemi Belgore emphasized the company’s legacy. “Shell has been powering progress in Nigeria for over 60 years by pioneering oil and gas production onshore and in deep water, while implementing wide-ranging social investments that have improved lives across the country,” Belgore said. He highlighted Shell’s commitment to leveraging technology and human resources for a resilient and sustainable energy future.

‎The SPE recognized Shell for its $5 billion Bonga North FID, announced late last year. The project, currently under execution, boasts an estimated recoverable resource of over 300 million barrels of oil equivalent (boe) and is expected to achieve a peak production of 110,000 barrels of oil per day. The award underscores Shell’s significant contributions to Nigeria’s energy sector.

‎Marno de Jong, Executive Vice President and Country Chair for Shell Nigeria, commented on the award, stating, “We are pleased that our businesses in Nigeria have delivered tangible benefits to the country through the taxes and royalties we pay, the local businesses we support with contract awards, and the lives we have touched through social investments in health and education.” De Jong reaffirmed Shell’s commitment to partnering with stakeholders for Nigeria’s development, noting that the 2025 SPE conference provides an ideal platform to showcase the company’s confidence in the nation’s future.

‎The exhibition and award highlight Shell’s ongoing efforts to drive innovation and sustainability in Nigeria’s energy landscape, reinforcing its position as a key player in the industry.
