South Africa: MTN appoints David Behr as CEO for Enterprise Solutions

David Behr, a seasoned industry expert with over two decades of experience in enterprise technology, will assume the role of Chief Executive of the ICT Centre of Excellence (CoE) for MTN Group and MTN South Africa. Behr brings extensive expertise in enterprise cloud, cybersecurity, IoT solutions, and platform development, among other domains.

The ICT Centre of Excellence (CoE) serves as a core division within MTN, focusing on the development and advocacy of best practices, processes, and standards for the company. Additionally, it spearheads the creation of platforms and solutions that are subsequently implemented by business units for customer service.

David Behr’s expertise in establishing Centers of Excellence will aid MTN in achieving the necessary enterprise scale across its 19 operational markets.

“ICT solutions specifically designed to service enterprises is undoubtedly one of the most fast-developing and ever-evolving sectors within business today. By pulling together best-in-class multidisciplinary specialists, we can drive thought leadership and guarantee fast task execution while enhancing our organisation’s capabilities,” says Jens Schulte-Bockum, MTN Group COO about the unit’s importance.

“This is a powerful value-add to our customers who always expect cutting-edge solutions from us, to help their businesses thrive.”

MTN’s Ambition 2025 hinges on the development of world-class ICT solutions, a crucial component of portfolio transformation and the creation of valuable digital platforms. According to MTN, Behr’s appointment perfectly aligns with these strategic objectives, particularly in maximising its strategic alliance with hyperscalers and other essential partners.

“David Behr’s exceptional career and deep industry knowledge make him the ideal choice to lead our ICT Centre of Excellence. He will play a pivotal role in advancing our strategic initiatives, strengthening our partnerships, and driving innovation that enhances our customers’ digital experiences”, says Charles Molapisi, CEO of MTN South Africa.

In 1995, Behr founded one of Zimbabwe’s first Internet Service Providers (ISPs) and successfully nurtured it into becoming the largest ISP in the country. In 2012, he joined Liquid Intelligent Technologies, where he made substantial contributions to the company’s growth and development.

As the current CEO of Liquid C2, David Behr has played a pivotal role in shaping the organization’s success, solidifying his reputation as a visionary leader. He will be taking over the position from Vaughn Naidoo, who served in an interim capacity.

David Behr holds an MBA from Harvard Business School and a Master of Science in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from the University of Bristol in the UK.
