Afreximbank deepens support for Uganda’s new growth ambitions
The African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank) is strengthening its partnership with Uganda as the country advances its Tenfold Growth Strategy and long-term economic transformation.
Humphrey N. Nwugo, Afreximbank’s Regional Director for East Africa, met with Honourable Henry Musasizi, Minister of Finance, Planning and Economic Development, to explore how the Bank can further support Uganda’s development priorities.

Discussions focused on key sectors including agro industrialisation, tourism, minerals, infrastructure and trade, as well as the proposed Uganda Country Programme and innovative financing solutions for strategic public- and private-sector projects.
Uganda has been part of Afreximbank’s story since 1993. Kampala already hosts the Bank’s East Africa Regional Office and will soon become home to the US$100 million Afreximbank Africa Trade Centre (AATC), a major regional hub designed to boost trade, investment and business connectivity across East Africa.

Afreximbank’s existing support in Uganda spans a broad portfolio. This includes financing for government infrastructure and development priorities, the International Specialised Hospital in Lubowa, the Akii Bua Olympic Stadium, and facilities for companies such as DOTT Services Limited, Watu Credit, Bantu Energy, Lake Victoria Logistics and the Madhvani Group.
The Bank is also collaborating with local financial institutions — including Uganda Development Bank, dfcu Bank, Ecobank Uganda and I&M Bank Uganda — to expand access to trade and development finance across the economy.
With the AATC taking shape in Kampala and a growing pipeline of projects in priority sectors, Afreximbank has reaffirmed its commitment to helping Uganda build a more productive, industrialised and trade-driven economy.
