CalBank, MTN, and Bluespace launch ‘BeINsured’ in Ghana

CalBank PLC, in collaboration with MTN Ghana and fintech firm Bluespace Africa, has launched BeINsured, Ghana’s first digital auto insurance marketplace.

The innovative platform, powered by USSD technology, aims to simplify the purchase of vehicle insurance, enabling users to buy policies, pay premiums, and process claims directly from their mobile phones without internet access.

The initiative seeks to bridge the insurance gap in Ghana, where many vehicle owners remain uninsured. By leveraging MTN’s mobile money ecosystem, BeINsured streamlines premium payments and claims processing, offering a more accessible and efficient insurance experience.

Speaking at the launch event held at CalBank’s Head Office, Martha Quaye, Head of Digital and Inclusive Banking at CalBank, emphasized the bank’s commitment to digital transformation and financial inclusion.

“As part of our strategy, we have focused on digital transformation, some of which require collaboration with partners. That is what has brought this platform to bear. As a bank, digitization is what we strive for, which is why we have introduced this product to the market,” she stated.

Sylvia Otuo Acheampong, Chief Product Officer at Mobile Money Limited, highlighted the role of MTN’s infrastructure in facilitating seamless transactions.

“We are providing the platform for easy payments, allowing customers to pay premiums and receive claims seamlessly through their mobile wallets,” she said.

With BeINsured, vehicle owners—especially those in remote areas and commercial operators—can now access quick, reliable, and transparent insurance solutions. The platform is expected to drive auto insurance penetration and reshape Ghana’s insurance industry by offering greater flexibility and efficiency.

Kwame Play, Revenue Operations Lead at Bluespace, expressed confidence in the platform’s potential to enhance accessibility and trust in the insurance sector.

“We have aggregated the industry’s best insurers to increase penetration and provide a more convenient, transparent auto insurance experience,” he noted.

The launch of BeINsured marks a significant step in Ghana’s digital insurance landscape, offering an innovative approach to auto coverage in an increasingly mobile-driven economy.
