CIC Insurance launches new CIC Impact

-To target Kenya’s microinsurance market

CIC Insurance Group has officially launched CIC Impact, a specialized microinsurance subsidiary aimed at providing affordable and accessible financial protection to low- and middle-income earners, small businesses, farmers, and cooperatives across Kenya.

The new entity operates under the Insurance Regulatory Authority’s (IRA) Microinsurance Regulations of 2020 and offers a suite of products with annual premiums starting below Ksh 3,000. The portfolio is designed to address everyday risks faced by working-class families and small enterprise owners, including:

-MSME and Commercial Risk covers for small businesses
-Agriculture and Livestock insurance tailored for smallholder farmers
-Specialized Personal Accident protection for boda boda riders, security guards, blue-collar workers, and students
-Community and Health Safety Nets such as micro-pensions, group funeral benefits, group medical cover, and daily hospital cash support

The launch comes amid strong growth in CIC’s microinsurance business. Premiums rose from Ksh 131 million in 2020 to a cumulative Ksh 1.2 billion by the first half of 2026.
“Through CIC Impact, we are expanding access to insurance by offering affordable, accessible solutions tailored to underserved groups,” said Patrick Nyaga, Group Managing Director and CEO of CIC Insurance Group. “With annual premiums starting below Ksh 3,000, more Kenyans can protect their businesses, livelihoods, and families.”

Group Chairman Dr. Nelson Kuria noted that while CIC has offered microinsurance solutions for more than a decade, the dedicated subsidiary will allow deeper market penetration and the development of simpler, more innovative products.

To accelerate growth and strengthen delivery, CIC Group has partnered with the Philippines’ CARD Mutual Benefit Association (CARD MBA). Dr. Jaime Aristotle Alip, Founder and Chairman Emeritus of CARD MRI, said the collaboration will focus on sharing operational knowledge, building local staff capacity, leveraging technology, and refining product design to maximize social impact.

The establishment of CIC Impact positions the Group to better serve Kenya’s large informal and low-income segments while advancing financial inclusion through sustainable microinsurance solutions.
