Engen Botswana announces board changes: Ravi Kara appointed

Engen Botswana Limited (Engen Botswana) has unveiled a significant change in its boardroom leadership, ushering in a new era of governance as the company navigates a transforming energy sector.

The listed fuel retailer confirmed that long-serving non-executive director, Mr. Stephen Paul Williams, resigned from the board effective 31 December 2025. The board extended its gratitude for his service, stating it “wishes Mr. Stephen Paul Williams well with his future endeavours.”

Filling the vacancy is Mr. Ravi Kara, a seasoned oil and gas executive, whose appointment as a non-executive director took effect from 1 January 2026. His position is subject to ratification by shareholders at the company’s forthcoming Annual General Meeting. The move is seen as a strategic step to bolster the board’s financial and commercial oversight capabilities.

A Strategic Appointment for a Competitive Landscape

Mr. Kara arrives with substantial regional expertise and a deep financial background from within the Engen group. He currently holds the position of Finance Head: Commercial at Engen Petroleum in South Africa. A Chartered Accountant, his career with Engen includes senior roles such as Enterprise Performance Manager and Financial Services Manager, where he oversaw financial operations across the group’s international footprint in 15 countries.

His governance credentials are equally established, serving as Chairman of Engen Eswatini and a board member of Engen Lesotho, with prior directorships at Engen DRC and Engen Mauritius.

Positioning for the Future

Board Chairperson, Mr. Shabani Ndzinge, welcomed the appointment, stating the board looks forward to Mr. Kara’s contributions to its strategic strength.

This leadership transition occurs as Engen Botswana continues to solidify its standing in a dynamic market characterized by evolving consumer patterns and the gradual shift toward cleaner energy sources. The company maintains one of Botswana’s most extensive fuel retail networks and remains a key distributor of petroleum products, lubricants, and convenience retail offerings.
