Ghana: ADB Announces GHS 1 Million Cash Prize for National Best Farmer

The  Deputy Managing Director of Agricultural Development Bank PLC (ADB), Madam Eno Ofori-Atta, unveiled a GHS 1 million cash prize for the overall National Best Farmer during the upcoming 40th National Farmers’ Day Celebration.

Speaking at an event attended by government officials, former National Best Farmers, and industry stakeholders, she expressed ADB’s commitment to sponsoring the prestigious celebration. “As Farmers Bank, ADB considers it a great privilege to be the lead sponsor for the 2024 National Farmers’ Day Celebration,” she stated.

In addition to the cash prize, ADB’s sponsorship will include a Welcome Cocktail and a Farmers’ Forum for award winners, reflecting the bank’s ongoing efforts to honor and support those enhancing food security in the nation. These initiatives will provide essential platforms for farmers, fishers, and agricultural experts to share ideas and strategies for transitioning to smart agriculture.

She  also emphasized the importance of adaptation and innovation in the agricultural sector, especially in response to climate change. “We look forward to providing the pledged amount to the 2024 National Best Farmer for investments in technologies that enhance productivity and promote resilience against climate-related risks,” she noted.

Deputy Minister for Food and Agriculture, Hon. Yaw Frempong Addo, expressed gratitude to ADB for its long-standing sponsorship of the overall National Best Farmer category for over 39 years. He encouraged the bank to continue leading the agricultural financing sector and urged support for PFJ 2.0, particularly the input credit system, which is vital for agricultural development in Ghana.

As National Farmers’ Day approaches, anticipation grows for the recognition of the exceptional contributions made by farmers and fishers, who are critical to the nation’s economy and food security.
