Ghana: Republic Bank provides life jackets to support Fanaa residents

Republic Bank Ghana has promoted community safety by donating 50 life jackets to schoolchildren in Fanaa, Ga South Municipality, Greater Accra Region.

Republic Bank Ghana, through its ‘Power to Make a Difference (PMAD)’ initiative, donates 50 life jackets to schoolchildren in Fanaa, Ga South Municipality, Greater Accra Region, in line with its corporate social responsibility. This commitment aligns with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goal 3 (SDG-3) – Good Health and Well-Being.

The donation of 50 life jackets to schoolchildren in Fanaa by Republic Bank Ghana was made at the Weija–Gbawe Municipal Assembly. Representatives from Republic Bank, Assembly personnel, and residents attended the ceremony. This act underscores the bank’s commitment to fostering meaningful relationships with the communities it serves, embodying its identity as a ‘Bank with a Heart.’

Claudia Koranteng, a member of the Marketing and Communications Department at the bank, expressed optimism at the impact of the donation, when she said: “At Republic Bank, we believe in investing in the well-being of the communities we serve. The provision of life jackets to the schoolchildren of Fanaa is a small, yet, significant step toward ensuring the safety of individuals, especially those living in areas prone to water-related activities”.

Tragically, in May 2023, nine schoolchildren from the Fanaa community lost their lives in a drowning incident while crossing a river on their way home from school. Media reports attributed the incident to the insufficient availability of life jackets. The challenging situation in Fanaa forces schoolchildren to travel by boat to the next town for education due to the lack of schools in their community.

Receiving the life jackets on behalf of the Municipal Chief Executive, Charles Odoom – the Weija-Gbawe Municipal Director for Education, expressed gratitude to Republic Bank for the kind gesture. He added that the life jackets would enhance safety measures for the schoolchildren.

Republic Bank’s donation of life jackets serves as a crucial step towards mitigating water-related incidents in Fanaa, aiming to enhance safety and create a secure environment for the community.

Republic Bank (Ghana) PLC, a subsidiary of Republic Financial Holdings Limited (RFHL) of Trinidad & Tobago, is Ghana’s leading universal banking institution and arguably the most diversified financial institution. As a one-stop financial institution, the bank’s services include Corporate, Commercial and Retail Banking; Investment Banking; Trustee Services; Mortgage Banking; VISA Credit and Debit Cards and Microfinance.
