Ghana: Telecel Ghana empowers 100 girls with tech and ICT skills

Telecel Ghana has recently welcomed more than 100 young girls from the Northern, Eastern, and Savannah regions to its head office in Accra for a day dedicated to ICT training and mentorship.

This event, part of the annual Girls in ICT Open Day organized by the Ministry of Communications and Digitalisation, aims to inspire and educate young women about the skills and career opportunities in the technology sector.

During the day, the participants were greeted by the Senior Management Team and engaged in hands-on training covering foundational data analytics, robotics, cybersecurity, networks, and digital transformation. They also benefited from mentorship sessions led by Women in Technology at Telecel Ghana, offering valuable insights into the tech industry.

The mentorship sessions included talks from female tech leaders who shared their personal experiences and offered advice to the aspiring young women. They emphasized the importance of upskilling, teamwork, and innovation for achieving success in the technology field.

“We believe that empowering young women with technology is essential for creating a more inclusive and innovative future,” said Mrs. Juliana Ametorwogo, President of Women in Technology at Telecel Ghana.

Director of Legal and External Affairs, Augusta Andrews, said the interactive and practical sessions will go a long way to nurture these young talents and contribute to creating a more inclusive tech ecosystem.

“Investing in improving the digital capabilities of young women is a step in the right direction towards the development of a skilled and diverse future workforce that benefits not just businesses but the country.

“We believe in inspiring these girls to pursue careers in technology and become leaders in the digital age,” Augusta added.

The participants expressed their appreciation and renewed enthusiasm for technology after benefitting from the opportunity to learn new tech and digital skills and gain exposure to the tech industry.
