Ghana: UBA appoints Uzoechina Molokwu as MD/CEO

Africa’s global bank, United Bank for Africa (UBA) Plc, has appointed Uzoechina Molokwu as the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of UBA Ghana effective February 21, 2024.

His appointment is expected to offer leadership and enhance the capabilities of the management team in guiding operations within the country and propelling its growth trajectory forward.

Bringing with him over two decades of experience in the banking sector, Uzoechina Molokwu’s extensive background positions him as a seasoned expert in his new role. He previously served as Deputy Managing Director at UBA Ghana starting from August 2023, further enriching his wealth of expertise.

Prior to his role as Deputy Managing Director at UBA Ghana, Uzoechina Molokwu held diverse positions of increasing responsibility within UBA Nigeria. He served as a Directorate Head, Regional Manager, and Branch Manager before his tenure as Executive Director at UBA Côte D’Ivoire, showcasing a well-rounded and extensive career within the UBA Group.

Uzoechina Molokwu holds a Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree in Philosophy and a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from Nigerian universities. Additionally, he has pursued further education, obtaining a Master of Science (MSc) in Corporate Governance and a Master of Laws (LLM) in Business Law from universities in the United Kingdom.

His professional journey encompasses various domains, such as Corporate Banking, Private Client Services, Commercial Banking, Small and Medium Enterprises Banking, Consumer Banking, and Energy Banking. He also boasts a commendable track record in relationship management, business development, credit evaluation, restructuring, risk asset portfolio management, and effective people leadership.

Mr. Kweku Awotwi, the Board Chairman, expressed commendation and confidence in the appointment of Mr. Uzoechina Molokwu as the new Managing Director & CEO of UBA Ghana. He stated: “Having served as the Deputy Managing Director before his promotion, Mr. Molokwu brings a wealth of experience and leadership to his new role”.

He underscored the importance of continuity and stability in leadership, noting that Mr. Molokwu’s appointment ensures a seamless transition and reinforces UBA Ghana’s position as a leading financial institution in the country.

Mr. Molokwu’s appointment underscores UBA Ghana’s dedication to fostering talent and advancing internal succession, thereby fortifying the bank’s leadership cadre. This strategic move not only enhances the bank’s leadership team but also positions it for continuous growth and prosperity amidst the evolving landscape of the banking industry.
