Ghana: Young CEO introduces ‘Accra by Air’ aviation service

‘Accra by Air,’ a domestic airline service, offers the average Ghanaian the opportunity to experience a scenic flight over the city of Accra.

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Adubea Ofosu explained that, the initiative was driven by her passion for tourism around the world.

Referring to her experiences in Dubai, Adubea mentioned that tourists can rent aircraft to explore the city.

Upon making this fascinating discovery, the young entrepreneur decided to introduce the same concept in Ghana, giving rise to her aviation venture, Accra by Air.

“There is actually something called Adventure Tours or City Tours, where you can hire an aircraft or helicopter and tour around the city. For instance, in Dubai, they do that. So when I noticed this, I thought to myself; we could actually do this in Ghana because there is nothing like that here hence the name Accra by Air” she explained.

Adubea noted that the service’s success is attributed to the strong support from the Ghanaian community.

“We had huge support, and it was amazing. When we first announced it, we were even trending on Twitter,” she touted.

She mentioned that she acquired the technical knowledge and the inspiration to initiate an aviation business from a family member with pilot experience. When it came to financing the aircraft, Adubea explained that she teamed up with other partners to secure the required funds.

Using this approach, the businesswoman has already obtained four aircraft and aims to possess a fleet of at least 20 by year-end. Notably, Adubea Ofosu, the young entrepreneur, holds a degree in Nursing from the University of Ghana, Legon, in addition to her aviation venture.

“I finished Legon in 2020. After school, I wrote my license, because before you can practice professionally, you have to get your license. So I practised a little bit, got my license, and also applied for another international license in Texas” she said.

Adubea encourages aspiring young entrepreneurs not to confine themselves to pursuing exclusively business-related courses in school but to follow their passions and interests. She emphasizes that entrepreneurship is open to anyone, regardless of their academic background.

“Entrepreneurship does not necessarily demand a formal background in business, as one can still take up short courses in business along the line,” she added.
