InstinctBusiness CEO of the Week: Adaora Umeoji, Group MD, Zenith Bank

Dame (Dr.) Adaora Umeoji, OON, the Group Managing Director of Zenith Bank, has been honoured as InstinctBusiness CEO of the Week.

With nearly 30 years of banking experience, Dr. Umeoji stands as an innovator in the Nigerian banking industry.

Dr. Umeoji has played a major role in shaping the institution’s strategic direction and operational excellence with over 20 years in executive management at Zenith Bank. Her leadership extends beyond the bank, serving as the Chairperson of Zenith Nominees Limited and as a non-executive director on the board of Zenith Bank (Ghana) Plc.

Under her watch, Zenith Bank Plc profited N2.9 trillion in the third quarter of 2024 from N1.33 trillion in Q3 2023, a distinct growth of 118%. These numbers show the bank’s market leadership in the continent.

Additionally, Zenith Bank has raised a total of N350.4 billion through its recently concluded hybrid Rights Issue and Public Offer.

Her professional development is bolstered by her participation in prestigious executive programs worldwide. She is an alumna of Harvard Business School’s Advanced Management Program and holds certificates from Columbia Business School’s Global Banking Program, MIT Sloan School of Management in Economics for Business, and Wharton Business School’s Strategic Thinking and Management Program.

As a Certificated Professional Banker of the Chartered Banker Institute, Dame (Dr.) Umeoji is a distinguished fellow of several professional bodies, including the Chartered Bankers Institute of London and the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria.

Her commitment to ethical banking and community service is further demonstrated through her establishment of the Catholic Bankers Association of Nigeria (CBAN) and her recognition as a Peace Advocate by the United Nations (UNPOLAC).

Amongst all, Dr. Umeoji is a recipient of many awards. The Federal Government of Nigeria honoured her with the Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON) for her significant contributions to nation-building and sustainable development.
