Absa Bank Uganda Managing Director, Mumba Kenneth Kalifungwa, emerges InstinctBusiness CEO of the Week

InstinctBusiness Magazine has named the Managing Director (MD) of Absa Bank Uganda, Mumba Kenneth Kalifungwa, as its CEO of the week.

Mumba is an accomplished leader with over 23 years of extensive experience in the banking and financial services industry across multiple African markets. He is recognized for his strategic leadership and ability to drive transformation within organizations.

Mumba’s journey in the banking sector began in 2000, and since then, he has held various senior roles that have honed his expertise in retail and corporate banking, risk management, and strategic planning. Before his appointment at Absa Bank Uganda, he held prominent positions at Barclays Africa, including Managing Director of Barclays Bank Zambia and Chief Operating Officer for Barclays Bank Botswana. His tenure in these roles was marked by significant achievements in enhancing operational efficiency, customer satisfaction, and market share growth.

At Absa Bank Uganda, Mumba has been a pivotal force in steering the bank through its rebranding from Barclays to Absa, ensuring a seamless transition while maintaining high standards of service and stakeholder confidence.

He holds a Master of Business Administration from Herriot Watt University of Scotland and is a fellow member of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA), the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) and Botswana Institute of Chartered Accountants (BICA).

Under his leadership, Absa Bank Uganda has introduced several digital banking solutions, expanded its product portfolio, and strengthened its commitment to community development through various corporate social responsibility initiatives. His leadership at Absa Bank Uganda continues to be characterized by his dedication to excellence, innovation, and the empowerment of both employees and customers, solidifying the bank’s position as a leading financial institution in Uganda.

East African Breweries Group Managing Director/CEO, Jane Karuku, emerges InstinctBusiness CEO of the Week

InstinctBusiness Magazine has named the Group Managing Director/CEO of East African Breweries, Jane Karuku, as its CEO of the week.

MS. Jane Karuku is a dynamic business leader, with strong management experience spanning over 25 years in various sectors, including FMCG, telecommunications, and agriculture.

Before her appointment as CEO of EABL in January 2021, she served as the Managing Director of Kenya Breweries Limited (KBL), a subsidiary of EABL. Under her leadership at KBL, the company achieved significant growth and strengthened its market position. Her commitment to corporate social responsibility has led to impactful programs in areas such as water stewardship, education, and health.

Prior to joining EABL, Jane held several senior roles, including President of the Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa (AGRA), where she was instrumental in driving agricultural transformation across the continent. She also served as the Managing Director of Cadbury East and Central Africa, where she led the company through significant market expansions and operational improvements.

Jane has received numerous accolades for her outstanding contributions to business and community development. She has been recognized as one of the Top 100 Women CEOs in Africa by Reset Global People and has received awards for her leadership in sustainability and corporate governance.

She is currently the Chairperson of the Kenya COVID-19 Fund, Chairperson of Kenya’s Vision 2030 Board, a Trustee at the United States International University (USIU), and is a board member at the Kenya Association of Manufacturers. Ms. Karuku holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Food Science and Technology from the University of Nairobi and an MBA in Marketing from the National University of California.

Stanbic Bank Botswana CEO, Chose Modise, emerges InstinctBusiness CEO of the Week

InstinctBusiness Magazine has named the CEO of Stanbic Bank Botswana, Chose Modise, as its CEO of the week.

Chose Modise is a distinguished finance professional with extensive expertise in finance, strategic management, auditing, and risk management. With over 21 years of business and commercial experience across various industries in more than 12 African countries, Chose has established a robust track record of success.

He previously served in the role of Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of Stanbic Bank Botswana, having assumed the role in December 2018. Notable prior roles include Chief Finance Officer (CFO) of Botswana Life Insurance Limited; Finance Director for Swaziland Beverages in Swaziland; Internal Audit Manager for Africa and Asia for SABMiller based in Johannesburg; and Head of Finance for Botswana Breweries. He is a Fellow Member of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) and a Member of the Botswana Institute of Chartered Accountants (BICA).

Under his leadership, Stanbic Bank Botswana has focused on driving innovation, improving customer experience, and expanding its range of financial services. Modise is known for his commitment to financial inclusion and economic development, working to ensure that the bank not only meets the needs of its clients but also contributes positively to the broader community.

His tenure at Stanbic Bank Botswana is marked by efforts to enhance digital banking services, streamline operations, and foster a customer-centric culture. Modise is known for his visionary leadership, strategic thinking, and unwavering dedication to excellence. He is also passionate about building local capacity and unlocking the full potential of teams to deliver sustainable impact for all Batswana.

As the CEO of Stanbic Bank Botswana, Modise has been instrumental in steering the bank towards greater heights. His leadership continues to drive the bank’s mission to provide exceptional banking services while contributing to the broader economic development of Botswana.
