NEW: UBA Zambia opens 10th branch in Kasumbalesa

United Bank for Africa (UBA) Zambia has officially opened its 10th branch in Kasumbalesa, a strategic border town at the heart of the north-south trade route linking Zambia, the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and Atlantic trade corridors.

The new branch is designed to bring banking services closer to the businesses and communities that drive cross-border commerce in the region. Kasumbalesa’s position as a major gateway makes it a critical location for trade finance, digital payments and financial inclusion.

Dr Tukiya Kankasa-Maluba, UBA Zambia Board Chairperson, highlighted the significance of the expansion. “As billions of dollars in infrastructure investment unlock faster, more reliable transit between Zambia, the DRC and Atlantic trade routes, UBA is positioning itself as the financial engine room for this corridor,” she said.

Guest of Honour, Ministry of Finance and National Planning Permanent Secretary Mr Mulele Mulele, noted that the branch’s presence at the border should help facilitate cross-border transactions and support the shift from cash-based, informal trade to safer, faster and more efficient digital financial services.

He challenged UBA to develop the Kasumbalesa branch into a centre for SME finance, trade finance, digital payments and cross-border services, with particular attention to women entrepreneurs and young people.

The branch was officially opened by Mr Mulele Mulele alongside Bank of Zambia Regional Director Ms Nancy Mwilwa, UBA Zambia Board Chairperson Dr Tukiya Kankasa-Maluba, and UBA Zambia Managing Director Mr Chinedu Obeta.
