Nigeria: UBA Chairman to address ECOWAS mining forum
The Chairman of United Bank for Africa (UBA), Tony Elumelu, is set to deliver the keynote address at the fourth edition of the ECOWAS Mining and Petroleum Forum in Cotonou, Benin Republic.
The bank announced on Monday that the Forum, serving as a platform for stakeholders in the mining and petroleum sectors of the ECOWAS, is scheduled to take place from February 22 to February 24, 2024.
UBA said that as a financial institution with presence in 20 African countries and active involvement in major continental development projects, it is the preferred partner for the event, thus “Underlining the bank’s commitment to the growth of mining and Petroleum industry in the sub-region but to the whole not African economic development.”
As Chairman of the Indigenous conglomerate, Transnational Corporation Group, with interests in energy and power, he will speak on the theme: “Geo-extractive Resources and Technologies: Strategies for Value Creation in West Africa.”
His speech is anticipated to underscore UBA’s commitment to supporting and fostering the development of the African continent through strategic investments in critical sectors such as mining and petroleum.
ECOMOF 2024 is expected to draw over 2,000 participants from varied sectors, including mining and oil industries, government representatives, international and national investors, industry experts, ECOWAS delegates, and international organizations.
Key officials from UBA Group and Transcorp Plc, such as Abiola Bawuah, CEO of UBA Africa; Ebele Ogbue, UBA’s Group Head of Corporate and Energy Bank; and Owen Omogiafo, President/CEO of Transcorp Group, will participate in discussions and panels during the event.
