Signature Bank appoints Alex Alozie as Deputy Managing Director

Signature Bank has appointed Alex Alozie as Deputy Managing Director, bringing over two decades of senior banking experience to the role.

Alozie joins from a career spanning some of Nigeria’s most prominent financial institutions, including Diamond Bank, Access Bank Plc, and UBA Group, where he held executive positions across operations, digital transformation, retail banking, and business development.

His most recent role was Group Chief Operating Officer at UBA Group, where he led large-scale operational transformation and business growth initiatives.

Before joining Signature Bank, Alozie served as Executive Director at United Bank for Africa (UBA) Plc, one of Africa’s leading financial institutions with a presence across 20 countries.

Alex brings over two decades of leadership experience across banking operations, digital transformation, retail banking, and business development. Over the course of his career, he has held key roles at leading institutions, including Diamond Bank, Access Bank Plc, and UBA Group.

He has served in several senior leadership capacities, including Head, Bankwide Operations at Diamond Bank; Group Head, Digital and Centralised Operations at Access Bank Plc; and Group Chief Operating Officer at UBA Group, where he drove large-scale operational transformation and business growth initiatives.”

In this role, he held overall responsibility for Group operations spanning all 24 countries of UBA’s footprint. His mandate encompassed leadership in business transformation, where he defined the transformation operating model and led the coordination, tracking, and monitoring of over 200 strategic initiatives across 11 workstreams, alongside numerous quick-win projects addressing operational pain points in Nigeria, Africa, and New York. He also supervised bank-wide operations to ensure consistent delivery of high-quality customer service at scale.

Before his tenure at UBA, Alozie excelled as Group Head, Operations, where he spearheaded business re-engineering efforts and played a pivotal role in enhancing operational efficiency and service excellence across the group’s pan-African network.

His earlier experience at Access Bank Plc as Group Head, Digital and Centralized Operations saw him coordinate digital and central processing units, resulting in consistently positive customer experiences across the bank’s extensive network. He directed the implementation of automation and innovation strategies that leveraged technology to support business growth and deliver superior service standards.

His recent appointment as Deputy Managing Director of Signature Bank marks a significant milestone in his illustrious career, positioning him to drive strategic growth, operational excellence, and innovation in one of Nigeria’s dynamic financial institutions based in Abuja.

Alozie’s foundational expertise was built during his nine-year tenure at Diamond Bank Plc, where he held progressively senior roles, including Head, Bankwide Operations, Divisional Head, Central Processing Division, Divisional Head, International Operations, and Head, Central Processing Unit. In these capacities, he demonstrated exceptional capability in managing large-scale operations, optimizing processes, driving centralized efficiencies, and ensuring seamless international and domestic banking services.

His appointment at Signature Bank is expected to strengthen the institution’s operational framework, accelerate digital innovation, and enhance customer-centric service delivery, reinforcing its position as a forward-thinking player in Nigeria’s financial services landscape.
