Vivo Energy Uganda launches ‘Learning on Wheels’ mobile training fleet

Vivo Energy Uganda, the company that distributes and markets Shell-branded fuels and lubricants, has officially launched its ‘Learning on Wheels’ initiative, a mobile classroom fleet designed to deliver structured workforce training and development directly to frontline teams across the country.

The fleet was unveiled at Shell Lugogo service station in the presence of customers, retail partners, mechanics, distributors and industry stakeholders. It comprises two specialised units: a Retail Academy unit and a Shell Lubricants Mobile Training Unit.

Together the units serve as state-of-the-art mobile learning hubs covering customer service excellence, Health, Safety, Security, Environment and Quality (HSSEQ) standards, digital capabilities, leadership skills and practical lubricant diagnostics.

By removing the need for staff to travel to a central location, the mobile classrooms allow personnel to access professional development without leaving their operational posts. The fleet will visit more than 200 Shell service stations nationwide, upskilling over 2,000 forecourt employees. It will also extend technical training to hundreds of independent mechanics through the Shell Workshop Action Team (SWAT) initiative.

The programme builds on Vivo Energy Uganda’s existing workforce development efforts. In 2020 the company launched the country’s first Retail Academy at Shell Capital on Kampala Road. The academy later moved to Shell Kitende, where it continues to operate as the central training hub with e-learning tools, classrooms and live forecourt training. The new mobile units will now take that same training into the field.

Hans Paulsen, Executive Vice President (East) of Vivo Energy Group and chief guest at the launch, underlined the strategic importance of the initiative.

“Infrastructure, high-quality fuels, and premium lubricants build our presence across East Africa, but our people build our brand,” he said. “What the Uganda team has achieved sets a new industry benchmark for how commercial efficiency and human empowerment can go hand in hand to deliver uniform excellence without interrupting daily business. Wherever a customer visits a Shell station, the standard of safety, technical expertise, and customer care remains uncompromisingly world-class.”

Joanita Mukasa Menya, Managing Director of Vivo Energy Uganda, emphasised the people-centred approach.
“At Vivo Energy Uganda, our people drive the exceptional experiences we deliver every day. Innovation is about finding better ways to empower people. ‘Learning on Wheels’ reflects our commitment to making high-quality training accessible to everyone, ensuring that every retail team member and mechanic can learn, grow, and succeed wherever they operate. When we invest in our frontline teams, we reinforce the trust that millions of customers place in the Shell brand
