Nigeria: YEDC improves infrastructure and assist electrocution victims

Yola Electricity Distribution Company (YEDC) has announced ongoing efforts to upgrade power infrastructure in Adamawa, Borno, Taraba, and Yobe states, following its takeover from the government.

Additionally, the company pledged to provide assistance to the victims of a recent electrocution incident in Taraba. The Taraba State Police Command had reported the tragic electrocution of a family of four in the Dinyavo area of Jalingo, the state capital.

Expressing regret over the incident, YEDC assured that it has assumed responsibility for covering all medical expenses for the affected family, and investigations into the matter are currently underway.

“The event was such a tragic one and YEDC is working closely with the Taraba State Government, the Nigerian Electricity Management Services Agency (NEMSA), the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), security agencies and other stakeholders to find out the immediate and remote causes of the event to ensure such incidences do not re-occur in any of its franchise areas,” the company said in a statement.

The Yola Electricity Distribution Company emphasized that providing safe and reliable electricity to its customers is of utmost importance. Since taking over the franchise, YEDC has been committed to rehabilitating the existing network in Adamawa, Borno, Taraba, and Yobe. This includes pilot projects to replace old conductor wires with recline cables, which will enhance the energy quality delivered to customers and significantly reduce technical and commercial losses.
