VFD Microfinance Bank names Nonso Kenneth Okoye as new MD

VFD Microfinance Bank has appointed Nonso Kenneth Okoye as its new Managing Director, marking a significant leadership transition for the institution.

The bank announced the appointment in a statement, describing it as the start of a new chapter focused on growth, innovation and greater value for customers. Okoye brings more than two decades of banking and financial services experience, most of it spent at Standard Chartered Bank across Nigeria and Central Africa.

Okoye joins VFD after serving as Chief Operating Officer for Corporate & Investment Banking Coverage at Standard Chartered Bank in Cameroon from September 2020 to December 2025.

In that role, he oversaw strategic business execution and operational excellence across Cameroon, Gabon, the Democratic Republic of Congo and Equatorial Guinea. He played a key leadership role in the successful transition of Standard Chartered’s Cameroon franchise to Access Bank Cameroon, ensuring the process was completed on schedule, in full regulatory compliance and with operational continuity.

Before his Central Africa posting, Okoye held senior positions in Nigeria. He served as Head of Process, Risk & Governance (Chief Operating Officer – Global Banking) at Standard Chartered, where he led governance, risk, compliance and operational frameworks for the Global Banking franchise.

Earlier, he was Head of Client Coverage Specialist – Origination & Client Coverage, Risk Manager & Strategist and Chief Operating Officer for Financial Markets , and Senior Credit Analyst & Business Operational Risk Manager

His career also includes roles as Financial Analyst and Deputy Financial Controller at Standard Chartered, as well as earlier experience as a Senior Consultant at KPMG and Consultant at Arthur Andersen, where he focused on assurance, business advisory, risk analysis and financial reporting.

Throughout his career, Okoye has been recognised for strong performance, including a Group CEO Recognition Award and the CEO’s “Going the Extra Mile” Award for successfully leading the unbundling of Standard Chartered’s Debt Capital Markets business in Nigeria. He has consistently delivered high audit and assurance outcomes and maintained strong client service and operational standards across multiple markets.
