This week, Delphine Traoré, CEO of Allianz Africa Côte d’Ivoire, a versatile businesswoman has emerged as InstinctBusiness Magazine’s “CEO OF THE WEEK” for the Month of October 30th-Nov 5th,2022 rankings.

Delphine Traoré is the Regional CEO of Allianz Africa since November 1st, 2021. She joined the Board of management of Allianz Africa as Regional Chief Operations Officer (COO) in February 2017. She is responsible for the development of Allianz’s business on the African continent.

Delphine Traoré’s Educational Background

Delphine was Born in Burkina Faso.She graduated Cum Laude Bachelor of Science in Business and Accounting from University of Pittsburgh, in the United States of America (USA) in 1996. After graduating, she joined Ohio Casualty Group of Insurance initially as a Senior Commercial Multi-Lines Insurance Underwriter and Marketing Representative and later as Regional Underwriting Manager.

She also holds a Master of Science in Insurance Management from Boston University, Boston, Massachusetts (MA), USA.

Delphine Traoré’s Career Background

Delphine studied and began her career in the United States. After graduating from the University of Pittsburgh, she worked at Ohio Casualty Group of Insurance as a Senior Commercial Multi-Lines Insurance Underwriter, Marketing Representative and Regional Underwriting Manager. In 2005, she joined AGCS Canada and held the positions of Liability Underwriter and Head of Market Management

Delphine joined the Allianz Group in 2005 as a liability underwriter and Director of Market Management for Allianz Global Corporate & Specialty Canada. She was Chief Executive Officer of Allianz Global Corporate & Specialty Africa.Since June 2019, Delphine has been President of the African Insurance Organisation and was elected President of the Insurance Institute of South Africa in 2015.

Delphine is presently the Regional Chief Operating Officer with Allianz Africa, part of the Allianz Group, providing personal and corporate insurance services in 17 countries.

In 2012, she was appointed CEO of AGCS Africa, becoming one of the first female CEOs of a financial institution in South Africa. In addition to her work at Allianz Africa, Delphine is President of the Insurance Institute of South Africa and a member of the African Risk Capacity’s Outbreak & Epidemic Advisory Panel.

In 2005, Delphine joined a division of Allianz responsible for global business insurance and large corporate and specialty risks.   In 2012, she became chief executive of that division, known as Allianz Global Corporate & Specialty (AGCS), and moved to Johannesburg, South Africa, before rising further up the ranks to become chief operating officer and later CEO of Allianz Africa as a whole.  

She has since her appointment, contributed immensely to profitability, growth of the organization.

In 2019, she was presented in Forbes Africa magazine’s portraits of women economic leaders. In 2018, Jeune Afrique magazine also ranked her among the 50 most influential women in Africa. From 2015 to 2017, she was the President of the Insurance Institute of South Africa. She won in 2015, the Woman Leadership Award from the Africa Leadership Awards. And appears twice in 2014 and 2015, in the top economic leaders of tomorrow study by the Choiseul 100 Africa.

The Africa Economy Builders Awards also declared Delphine Traoré Maïdou as ‘CEO of the Year’ for the significant contribution she made to Africa’s economy as CEO of Allianz Global Corporate & Specialty (AGCS) Africa

Under her leadership, AGCS Africa expanded significantly its number of employees and range of insurance solutions for corporate clients across the region.
