FNB Botswana gets new Deputy CEO: Dr. Mbako Mbo

First National Bank Botswana (FNBB) has appointed Dr. Mbako Mbo as its new Deputy Chief Executive Officer, effective July 1, 2025, marking a significant step in the bank’s leadership transition.

Dr. Mbo, who joined FNBB in February 2023 as Chief Financial Officer, was promoted to Executive Director on the Board in August 2023. In his elevated role as Deputy CEO, he will oversee critical functions, including Finance, Commercial Segment, Technology, Operations, and Data & Analytics, aligning with FNBB’s long-term strategic goals.

With a Ph.D. in Business Management from the University of Stellenbosch, an MBA from the University of Derby, and a Bachelor of Accountancy from the University of Botswana, Dr. Mbo brings a robust academic foundation to his leadership.

He is a certified ACCA and AMCT professional, with executive training from Harvard Business School and the Harvard Kennedy School of Government. Additionally, Dr. Mbo is a published academic, contributing to international journals on organizational performance and development finance.

The FNBB Board expressed strong confidence in Dr. Mbo’s ability to drive the bank’s growth and innovation agenda. “The Board welcomes Mbako into his new role and is confident that his wealth of experience will be valuable to the Bank,” the official statement read.

Dr. Mbo’s appointment underscores FNBB’s commitment to fostering dynamic leadership to navigate Botswana’s evolving financial landscape, positioning the bank for continued success and innovation.
