Julius Kakeeto is a distinguished financial services leader with a proven track record of driving transformative growth in Uganda’s banking sector. As Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of PostBank Uganda , Kakeeto has spearheaded the bank’s remarkable evolution from a credit institution to a fully-fledged commercial bank.

Under his leadership, PostBank Uganda has achieved restored profitability and delivered above-industry growth, solidifying its position as a key player in Uganda’s financial landscape.

Prior to PostBank, Kakeeto served as Managing Director and CEO of Orient Bank , where he drove strategic initiatives to enhance operational performance and market presence. His earlier roles at Orient Bank included Executive Director and Director of Business Development , where he laid the groundwork for sustainable growth through innovative business strategies.

Under Kakeeto’s leadership, PostBank’s profit grew by 28.41% to Shs35. 35bn ($9.7 million) in 2024, up from Shs27. 53bn ($7.4 million) in 2023. This gives the bank a market share of 2.16%.

Kakeeto spearheaded investments in digital banking, reducing over-the-counter transactions from 90% to 60% by enhancing mobile banking and the Wendi Mobile Wallet.The bank added 13 new branches and refurbished 44 existing ones between 2019 and 2023, with continued expansion in 2024.

Kakeeto’s extensive experience also includes a tenure as Finance Director at Equity Bank Limited , where he strengthened financial operations in Kampala.

His international expertise was honed at Citigroup in London, where he held progressively senior roles, including Director in Global Markets , Vice President in Global Markets , Assistant Vice President in Global Markets , and Chief Financial Officer. These roles equipped him with a global perspective on financial markets and strategic management.

With over two decades of leadership across Uganda and the UK, Julius Kakeeto combines deep financial acumen with a visionary approach to banking. His transformative leadership at PostBank Uganda continues to drive financial inclusion and economic growth, positioning the bank as a cornerstone of Uganda’s financial ecosystem.
