Emmanuel Nnorom: The Steady Hand Guiding UBA’s Pan-African Ambition
Emmanuel Nnorom is at the reins of one of Africa’s most expansive financial institutions as he assumes the position of the Group Chairman of United Bank for Africa (UBA) Group.
With operations across 20 African countries and an international presence in the United Kingdom, the United States, France and the United Arab Emirates, UBA represents a rare African success story of continental scale. Nnorom’s appointment brings not only seasoned leadership but a rare depth of institutional memory and strategic clarity to the Board at a pivotal moment in the Group’s evolution.
Returning to Familiar Ground with Fresh Perspective
Few leaders arrive at the chairmanship of a major bank with such intimate knowledge of its inner workings. Nnorom’s relationship with UBA spans more than eight years of senior executive responsibility that helped shape the institution into a truly pan-African force. As Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of UBA Africa, he directed the Group’s subsidiaries across 18 countries and steered its regional expansion strategy.
Earlier, he served as Group Chief Operating Officer and Group Chief Financial Officer, overseeing Finance and Risk, while also holding Executive Director roles in Finance, Risk and the Group Executive Office. Most recently, he sat on the Board as a Non-Executive Director, ensuring continuity of insight as he assumed the chairmanship.

This long association gives him an uncommon advantage: the ability to balance respect for institutional history with the courage to push the bank toward its next phase of growth. His return is less a new beginning than a natural progression of a career already deeply interwoven with UBA’s transformation story.
The Conglomerate Builder Who Understands Scale
Beyond banking, Nnorom has demonstrated an impressive capacity to lead complex, multi-sector organisations. As Chief Executive Officer of Heirs Holdings, he guided a diversified investment portfolio spanning financial services, power, healthcare, hospitality, real estate, energy and technology. Before that, he served as President and Chief Executive Officer of Transnational Corporation of Nigeria Plc (Transcorp), where he oversaw a broad portfolio that included Transcorp Power, Transcorp Hilton, Transcorp Hotels Calabar and Transcorp Energy.
These experiences sharpened his understanding of how large organisations create value across industries and geographies. They also reinforced the importance of disciplined capital allocation, operational excellence and long-term vision — qualities that translate powerfully into the governance of a major banking group operating across diverse African markets.
Financial Rigour Meets Strategic Stewardship
A chartered accountant by profession, Nnorom brings more than four decades of experience in banking, finance, audit, operations and corporate governance. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) and an Honorary Member of the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria (CIBN). His executive education at Templeton College, Oxford, further strengthened his leadership capabilities.
This combination of technical depth and broad executive experience positions him to guide UBA’s Board with both precision and perspective. As Group Chairman, he is charged with providing strategic leadership that sustains growth, strengthens governance and delivers lasting value to shareholders, customers, employees and stakeholders across the markets the Group serves.
In an era when African financial institutions are increasingly expected to compete on a global stage while remaining deeply rooted in the continent’s realities, Nnorom’s profile offers a compelling blend of institutional loyalty, cross-sector experience and professional discipline. His leadership signals continuity of purpose and a clear-eyed commitment to shaping UBA’s future with the same ambition that helped define its past.
