Lawrence Kimathi Emerges as InstinctBusiness CFO of the Week

Mr. Lawrence Kimathi, the Group Chief Finance Officer at KCB Group PLC, bringing a wealth of experience and expertise to his role has been recognized as InstinctBusiness Magazine’s CFO of the Week.

With over 25 years in his career, he has held significant leadership positions, including Finance Director/CFO at multinational organizations such as Cadbury East and Central Africa, AIG, East Africa Breweries Limited, BAT Sub Sahara Africa, and BAT PLC in London.

Lawrence Kimathi holds a Master’s in Business Administration (MBA) with merit from Warwick Business School UK and a Bachelor of Science degree majoring in accounting from United States International University – Africa (USIU). Additionally, he is a Certified Public Accountant of Kenya, CPA (K), and a member of both the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Kenya (ICPAK) and the Institute of Directors (IOD).

Lawrence has authored and presented a Tobacco Excise tax position paper to the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) and National Treasury, resulting in a revision of the Excise tax methodology in Kenya.

He directed Diageo’s local technical project team during the divestment of a non-core subsidiary, Central Glass Industries, to a Pan African Glass manufacturing entity.

Under his tenure, KCB Group Plc has been recognized globally for outstanding leadership in sustainable finance by the Global Finance Magazine. The bank received the Outstanding Leadership in Sustainable Loans in Africa category, during the inaugural Global Finance Sustainable Finance Awards 2021.

KCB Bank was named Kenya’s Best Bank 2021 in the 2021 Euromoney global awards, cementing the Bank’s leadership position in the banking sector. The Bank was also awarded Africa’s Best Responsible Bank in the Euromoney Awards for Excellence.
