Meet Samuel Sakyi-Hyde: UMB’s Newly Appointed Acting CEO

After five years of commitment and advanced service as Director for Consumer Banking at Universal Merchant Bank (UMB), Samuel Sakyi-Hyde presently holds the role of Acting Chief Executive Officer at Universal Merchant Bank (UMB) following the retirement of his successor, Nana Dwemoh Benneh.

Prior to his appointment, he served as UMB’s Director for Consumer Banking. His journey with UMB began in 2019 when he joined the institution, having previously served as the Chief Executive Officer at uniCredit Ghana Limited.   

He pursued his education at the University of Ghana, from 1994 to 1998, earning a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) in Statistics and Economics.

Between 2004 and 2006, he furthered his studies at the Wisconsin University College in Ghana, where he pursued an International Master of Business Administration (MBA). In 2017, he successfully completed his education with a Master of Business Administration (MBA) in Finance and Risk Management from the Business School Netherlands.

Samuel boasts an impressive track record of more than two decades in the banking sector, with expertise in Financial Services Management, Rural Banking, Credit Risk Management, Domestic Operations, Business Development, Retail and SME Banking, Internal Audit, Treasury Management, Trade Finance, Corporate Banking, and Project Management.

Before his current role, he held key positions at Ga Rural Bank Limited, Amalgamated Bank Ghana Limited (now Bank of Africa), as the head of Business Development and uniBank (Ghana) Limited (now CBG Limited) where he spearheaded numerous strategic initiatives for the banks, particularly in expanding their retail and SME customer base as well as enhancing the credit portfolio.

Samuel Sakyi Hyde is skilled in public speaking, communication, leadership, negotiation and interpersonal communication.

Samuel has been honored as a member of the West African Nobles Forum, and awarded the Africa Leadership Excellence Award and Manager of the Year issued by Europe Business Assembly in 2016.

Recognized for his dedicated service to UMB, the bank, under his board membership, secured three prestigious awards at the 9th and 10th Ghana Information Technology and Telecom Awards (GITTA) organized by InstinctWave Group.
