Ryan Air Pilots Strike In 5 European Countries
Ryan air pilots in five European countries are on strike forcing the cancellation of a sixth of the firm’s flights during the holiday season peak.
According to the Irish airline it would be scrapping some 400 out of 2,400 European flights scheduled for today as pilots in Ireland, Germany, Belgium, Sweden and the Netherlands walked off the job.
The action is the largest in a series of strikes over pay and conditions.
Ryan air says it has made every effort to resolve the dispute which would affect about 55,000 passengers which it has offered refunds or the option of rerouting their journey.
The company indicated that 85% of its scheduled flights will operate as normal on Saturday and the majority of customers affected have been given places on other Ryan air flights.
About 300 Ryanair flights were cancelled in July this year when cabin crews in Belgium, Portugal and Spain went on strike for 48 hours.
