Stanbic Bank Kenya appoints Michael Mutiga as new Chief Executive
Stanbic Bank Kenya has appointed Michael Mutiga as its new Chief Executive, following approval from the Central Bank of Kenya. The bank said the appointment reflects its commitment to leadership that can identify new possibilities and bring people along on the journey of growth.
Mutiga brings more than two decades of senior leadership experience spanning banking, telecommunications and digital financial services. His expertise centres on strategy, growth and organisational transformation, capabilities the bank highlighted as essential to strengthening its business, deepening client relationships and creating lasting value for stakeholders.
Before joining Stanbic Bank Kenya, Mutiga served as Chief Business and Development Officer at Safaricom, where he played a key role in shaping commercial strategy and driving growth across the telecommunications and digital services landscape.
Prior to that, he spent more than 15 years at Citi, rising through senior roles that included Managing Director and Head of Corporate Finance for Sub-Saharan Africa, as well as Managing Director and Head of Corporate Banking. Earlier in his career, he held leadership positions at Barclays in South Africa, focusing on transaction origination and execution.
Stanbic Bank Kenya described Mutiga’s appointment as a significant step in its continued evolution. “Every new chapter of growth calls for leadership that can see what’s possible and bring people with it,” the bank stated.

Under his leadership, the institution aims to build on its existing strengths while pursuing new opportunities for sustainable growth and client-centric innovation.
Stanbic Bank Kenya expressed confidence that Mutiga’s strategic outlook and proven ability to lead complex organisations will support its long-term ambition of delivering meaningful impact across Kenya’s financial sector.
