Uber partners Team Pankaj to provide Free Meals to Police Officers on Election Day

Cab-hailing firm Uber has announced partnership with Team Pankaj, a Nairobi-based organization, to donate free meals to police officers stationed across Nairobi County as Kenyans head to the polls on Tuesday, August 9. Police officers are stationed at every polling station as Kenyans cast their votes.

“We know that law enforcement officers have a critical role to play during the elections and we want to support them. We are uniquely positioned to help provide some comfort while unlocking further earnings for drivers, a demonstration of our commitment to the community,” stated Imran Manji, Uber Head of East Africa.

Team Pankaj was established at the height of the Covid-19 pandemic to offer relief to families in Nairobi’s informal settlements, supplying food items and crucial commodities. Vikas Shah of Team Pankaj stated that the election day partnership with Uber would help make things easier for police officers in the city as they help ensure a smooth, peaceful election.

“This partnership is very exciting, as we believe it’s important for every resident to make their mark- and by providing meals to police officers, we believe that we can reduce their pressure during this monumental day. We want to thank each one of them for their consistent hard work!” stated Vikas Shah from TeamPankaj.

Both Presidential frontrunners William Ruto and Raila Odinga as well as their running mates Rigathi Gachagua and Martha Karua respectively had already cast their votes by the time of publication.

President Uhuru Kenyatta also cast his vote in Gatundu South, and reiterated calls for a free and fair election.

Kenyans have turned out in numbers for the polls, and will be watching the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) keenly as they await the results.
