Nigerian Breweries partners Daystar Power for a 4.2MWp solar plant

Nigerian Breweries has entered into a partnership with Daystar Power to establish a 4.3-megawatt peak solar plant at its brewery in Lagos.

As per the announcement, Daystar Power has been engaged to install and oversee the operations of a solar plant with a capacity of 4.2 megawatts peak (MWp), coupled with a 2-megawatt-hour (MWh) battery storage system.

This installation represents a noteworthy milestone, being one of the most substantial solar and battery storage projects customized for an industrial manufacturer in Nigeria.

The hybrid solar-powered system is designed to generate 5,249 megawatt-hours (MWh) of electricity annually, constituting 42% of the daytime power consumption at Nigerian Breweries’ Lagos brewery.

The solar-powered system, functioning as a hybrid solution, is set to generate 5,249 megawatt-hours (MWh) of electricity each year. This substantial output will cover 42% of the daytime power consumption at Nigerian Breweries’ brewery in Lagos.

Integrating solar energy into the factory’s power supply will significantly reduce reliance on diesel generators, displacing an estimated 31.4 million litres of diesel and preventing an estimated 84,758 tons of CO2 emissions over the project’s 20-year operational span.

He highlighted their pride in contributing to Heineken’s dedication to adopting renewable energy and expediting its shift towards sustainability.

He said “We are thrilled to sign an agreement with Nigerian Breweries for this milestone project, one of the largest in our portfolio in Nigeria. We could not be prouder to support Heineken as it accelerates its adoption of renewable energy.”
