Kenya: Dorothy Maseke joins IRM global board as new deputy chair

The Institute of Risk Management (IRM) has appointed Dorothy Maseke as joint deputy chair of its global board.

Ms Maseke’s vast experience and leadership skills will be instrumental in promoting excellence in risk management education worldwide.

The board also appointed Mariam Crichton and Esther Chesterman as independent directors. With 17 and 25 years of experience, respectively. They will be responsible for improving the IRM’s credibility and governance standards. Additionally, they will play a watchdog role to ensure that the company complies with all regulatory requirements.

Ms Chesterman will also serve as the chair of the awarding committee responsible for ensuring compliance with the general conditions of recognition as stipulated by Ofqual. Additionally, she will drive the development of new and regulated qualifications.

“We are delighted to appoint Dorothy Maseke as joint deputy chair and welcome Mariam and Esther to our board. Their wealth of experience and diverse perspectives will be invaluable as we navigate the complexities of risk management in an ever-evolving landscape,” said Stephen Sidebottom, chair of the IRM.

Ms Maseke’s contribution to the IRM has been significant. She served on the IRM global board as director and chair of the investment committee. She is the founder of the IRM East Africa Regional Group.

She is also spearheading the establishment of a registered professional body in Africa, which will support IRM’s internationalisation strategy. At the same she is chairing the IRM’s nominations committee.

She was been feted as one of the Top 40 Under 40 women in Kenya and one of the Top 50 Women in Insurance in Africa in 2022.

Currently, Ms Maseke is a nature finance specialist, championing impactful nature and biodiversity initiatives that foster sustainable development and strategic investments across diverse African landscapes.
