

I&M Bank appoints Abdi Mohamed as new Chief Executive Officer
I&M Bank Limited has announced the appointment of Abdi Mohamed as its incoming Chief Executive Officer, subject to regulatory approval.
In a statement shared on LinkedIn, the bank expressed confidence in Mohamed’s ability to lead the institution into its next strategic phase.
“We are pleased to announce the appointment of Abdi Mohamed as the incoming Chief Executive Officer of I&M Bank Limited, subject to regulatory approval,” the bank stated.
“As we prepare to embark on our next strategic chapter, we are confident that his leadership, experience and vision will help shape the future of our Bank.”
Abdi Mohamed is a seasoned banking executive with extensive experience across East Africa. He currently serves as Managing Director and CEO of Absa Bank Kenya until his resignation after serving slightly more than three years at the helm..
Prior to this role, he held the position of Managing Director and CEO of Absa Bank Tanzania, where he led a major transformation journey, including the successful rebranding from Barclays Bank to Absa and delivered strong business growth.
Before his tenure in Tanzania, Mohamed served as Chief Operating Officer at Barclays Bank Kenya, where he provided strategic leadership to service delivery and support teams.

He has also held senior roles including Consumer Banking Director and Regional Head of Islamic Banking for East and West Africa at Barclays.
Earlier in his career, he served as Retail Director at Barclays Bank Zambia, where he executed an expansion strategy that positioned the bank as a market leader in the retail segment.
Widely regarded as an experienced banking leader with a strong track record in transformation, business growth, and customer-focused strategies, Mohamed is expected to bring significant expertise to I&M Bank as it advances its strategic objectives in Kenya’s competitive banking sector.
