Nigeria: Transcorp Group CEO appointed LBSAA president

The Lagos Business School Alumni Association has appointed Owen Omogiafo, the Group Chief Executive Officer of Transcorp, as its new president. Omogiafo was elected president at the recent governing council meeting and election held in Lagos, where Valentine Okelu and Misan Eribo were also elected as vice president and secretary, respectively.

Omogiafo succeeds Mr. Agada Apochi, whose tenure has ended.

The newly elected president expressed her gratitude for the opportunity to serve the association’s alumni alongside the other elected members, describing her new role as a call to serve.

She pledged to leverage her extensive experience and notable track record in leadership and business transformation to benefit the association.

Omogiafo stated, “This is a call to service and a call that commenced a couple of years ago. Nigeria by Nigerians, for Africa by Africans and that is our commitment to transforming our great continent. People should see the value here, despite the challenges, that the beauty of challenges is there are a lot of opportunities.

“We just need the foresight, and discipline to continue on the foundation laid by our predecessors for the Lagos Business School. I am very humbled to be considered worthy. I ask for your support for us to be able to build the alumni association.”

She was said to be instrumental in driving Transcorp’s growth fostering innovation and sustainable growth across companies in diverse portfolios.

She graduated from the University of Benin with a bachelor’s degree (double honours) in Sociology and Anthropology.

Omogiafo also holds a Master of Science degree in Human Resource Management from the London School of Economics and Political Science. Additionally, she is an alumnus of both Lagos Business School and IESE Business School in Spain.

She is a member of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (UK) and a Certified Change Manager through the Prosci Institute (USA). She is also a member of the Institute of Directors Nigeria.

Owen’s career began in stockbroking, and she later transitioned to banking, where she held various roles in operations, service quality management, and relationship management.

Before her tenure at UBA, she worked with Accenture, handling various projects and clients across both private and public sectors and diverse industries.

The new LBSAA president has held numerous roles, including Director of Human Resources at Heirs Holdings, Chief of Staff and Human Resource Advisor to the GMD/CEO at United Bank for Africa, and Organization and Human Performance Consultant at Accenture, specializing in change management.

She joined Transcorp as the Executive Director of Corporate Services in July 2018 and was subsequently appointed Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Transcorp Hotels Plc, overseeing operations at Transcorp Hilton Abuja and Transcorp Hotels Calabar.

In March 2020, Owen was appointed President and Chief Executive Officer of Transcorp, becoming the youngest CEO on the Nigerian Stock Exchange and the first female to hold the position at Transcorp Group.

Owen serves on the board of trustees for the Association of Power Generation Companies in Nigeria, an organization representing the interests of developers and operators of independent energy facilities.
