Ghana: Women’s Empowerment is fundamental for SDG growth- GEA Boss says

Chief Executive Officer of Ghana Enterprise Agency (GEA), Kosi Yankey Ayeh has said that the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) is largely dependent on the awareness policymakers extends on women’s empowerment.

Mrs. Yankey Ayeh called for strategic measures to be put in place to build effective, accountable, and comprehensive measures at various levels.

She made this statement at the launch of the GEA Business Integrity Project, a collaboration between the Ghana  Enterprise Agency (GEA) and the Ghana Integrity Initiative(GII) and funded by the Alliance for Integrity and Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (GIZ), Germany, to mark this year’s International Women’s Day (IWD).

The theme for IWD, Digit ALL: Innovation and Technology for Gender Equality was derived in alignment with the GEA Business Integrity Project to establish and adopt a multi-sectoral strategy into the operations of MSMEs, particularly those recognized by women.

Mrs. Yankey Ayeh added that GEA will influence digitalization to make technology accessible for women in business and to discontinue biases.  “This is how we can create a world with equal opportunities, where no one is left behind,” she said.

“Thus, the Business Integrity Project will be used as a tool to aggressively break stereotypes of gender biases at the workplace and in the community. This will ensure that women-owned/led businesses can take a seat at the table, stand up for their rights and push for things to be done right, thereby bridging the gap between women and men, and empowering women to be successful in the world of business,” Mrs. Yankey Ayeh added.

Executive Director of GII, Linda Ofori-Kwafo emphasized that women’s equality is should be considered in all spheres of life.

“Most importantly, there is a need to address all forms of bias in all sectors of the economy to ensure that women can reach their fullest potential,” she said.
