Ghana: UBA’s Read Africa project introduced in Kumasi
UBA Ghana has launched its Read Africa project, accompanied by a book donation drive for African literature at Kumasi Girls’ High School in the Ashanti Region.
This initiative seeks to address the decline in reading habits among African youth, particularly in secondary schools, by fostering a culture of reading through the Read Africa Project. The UBA team, led by Belinda Tinkorang, Regional Head for Outstation, along with Business Managers Raheemat Boakye, Kingsley Essel, and Ruth Bugyei Osei Donkoh, expressed gratitude to the school for their warm reception and for hosting the event.
Henry Nii Dottey, Head of Marketing & Corporate Communications for UBA Ghana, highlighted UBA Group Chairman Tony Elumelu’s vision of Africapitalism—using Africa’s resources to drive its own development.
Madam Love Amankwah, the headmistress of Kumasi Girls High School, commended UBA for its impactful efforts and suggested further collaboration on student development and school projects, including facilitating students’ bank account openings. The school’s Head Girl, Nana Ataa Owusu, thanked UBA on behalf of the student body, promising to make full use of the donated books.
Henry also highlighted UBA’s key programs, such as the Read Africa project, the National Essay Competition (NEC), and the Each-One-Teach-One initiative. He encouraged students to participate actively in the upcoming NEC for a chance to secure funding for their tertiary education.
