IHS Brazil expands Amazon coffee initiative
IHS Brazil has planted approximately 20,000 new seedlings across 10 hectares as part of its ongoing support for the Apuí Agroforestry Coffee Initiative, furthering its commitment to environmental sustainability and community development in the Amazon region.
The Apuí Agroforestry Coffee Initiative, developed by Amazônia Agroflorestal in partnership with the Institute of Conservation and Sustainable Development of the Amazon (Idesam), promotes agroforestry systems that integrate native and agricultural species. To date, the initiative has reforested more than 260 hectares, with IHS Brazil directly supporting the restoration of 23 hectares since the partnership began in 2021.
With the latest planting, IHS Brazil has contributed to the reforestation of over 44,000 seedlings in the region. The voluntary effort aligns with the environmental footprint of IHS Brazil’s 2023 greenfield tower construction program, reinforcing the company’s dedication to offsetting its infrastructure growth with ecological restoration.

“This project represents our commitment to sustainability and to local communities in the Amazon,” said Michel Levy, CEO of IHS Brazil. “By combining environmental recovery with income generation for local producers, we are helping create a cycle of sustainable development.”
The initiative not only supports environmental recovery but also promotes sustainable coffee farming as a viable economic alternative for local communities, helping strengthen livelihoods while preserving natural resources.
André Vianna, Technical Director at Idesam, emphasized the value of the collaboration, noting, “The support of long-standing and strategic partners, such as IHS Brazil, has been fundamental to strengthening and expanding the impact of the initiative. IHS has actively contributed to the socio-environmental development of a region with high potential for reducing deforestation.”
