Kenya: Safaricom’s 5G network now spans all 47 counties

Safaricom has achieved a significant milestone in expanding its 5G network, surpassing 1,000 sites nationwide. The network now spans all 47 counties in Kenya and is rapidly extending its reach to cover 14% of the population.

With 1,114 5G sites now operational in 102 towns, Safaricom is bringing high-speed internet to more people, businesses, and homes. The company has also attracted over 11,000 enterprise customers to its 5G services and seen a rise in active 5G smartphone users to more than 780,000.

Since October 2022, when Safaricom became the first provider to launch 5G in Kenya, the company has been steadily expanding its network. This expansion supports the digitization of enterprise solutions, including IoT, Cybersecurity, Cloud, and Payments, leading to enhanced business operations, increased efficiency, and fostering innovation and growth.

Safaricom offers customized 5G data bundles and Wi-Fi packages, enabling customers and businesses to enjoy fast internet speeds. These bundles are available via the Go Monthly plan on the MySafaricom App, the Safaricom website, or by dialing 544#. Additionally, 5G Wi-Fi can be accessed through the MySafaricom App, by dialing 400#, or at any Safaricom shop.

Over the years, Safaricom has achieved 97% population coverage in Kenya across its 2G, 3G, 4G, and now 5G networks. Its Fibre network also reaches more than 560,000 homes and businesses, ensuring widespread access to reliable, high-speed internet throughout the country.

Speaking on the significant achievement, Safaricom CEO Peter Ndegwa said, “Safaricom remains committed in leading Kenya’s Digital transformation through provision of a worry-free, always-on ubiquitous network enabling access to information, critical services, and communication therefore bridging the digital divide. We believe that the benefits of 5G will be a key catalyst in leapfrogging other innovations, industries as well as Kenya’s digital economy.”
