Ghana: ECG Boss reports 3.5 million users on PowerApp

The PowerApp, introduced by the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), is presently being utilized by 3.5 million electricity customers.

The Managing Director of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), Samuel Dubik Masubir Mahama, revealed in a radio interview on Accra-based Peace FM on Monday morning that when the PowerApp was introduced approximately two years ago, it had only about 250,000 users. The current user base has significantly grown to 3.5 million.

He attributes the app’s increasing popularity to its user-friendly interface, making it convenient for customers to access ECG’s services from the comfort of their homes.

Mr. Mahama urged all customers of the company to collaborate with ECG in its nationwide meter audit exercise.

As a service provider, ECG is committed to introducing innovative services to ensure that customers can easily access their offerings without encountering any challenges, according to Mr. Mahama.

He emphasized the importance of customers using the appropriate channels when dealing with the company, highlighting that some customers who express dissatisfaction often engage middlemen in their interactions with the company.

The ECG CEO clarified that the company does not sell meters to customers; instead, it only charges for service connection fees.

He said anyone who wishes to get a meter must use the company’s mobile app or visit their offices to get their meters than using “middlemen.”

He mentioned that individuals who involve middlemen in acquiring meters often end up paying more than the actual cost for the same services.

He explained that because they don’t sell meters, that is why they write on the meter, “Property of the Electricity Company of Ghana.”

Mr Mahama further admonished customers to be careful when dealing with people who claimed to be ECG staff.
