KW-PPA calls for stronger collaboration for service delivery

The General Manager of the Kwara State Public Procurement Agency (KW-PPA), QS Raheem Abdulbaki, has called for enhanced synergy among government stakeholders to improve service delivery and promote sustainable development across the state.

Abdulbaki appealed during a recent official visit to the Ministry of Works, where he met with senior officials to discuss collaborative strategies in procurement and project execution.

Emphasizing the importance of inter-agency cooperation, Abdulbaki urged Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) to align efforts in ensuring that public projects meet quality standards, encourage local participation, and make prudent use of state resources.

“It is not enough to deliver quality jobs; our people must also benefit from the contractual processes,” he said. “If we don’t patronize our own people and businesses, no one will do that for us. Many capable agencies are underutilized due to lack of patronage.” He highlighted the importance of promoting local content as a critical component of economic development and encouraged the Ministry of Works to deepen its support for indigenous contractors and suppliers.

However, he cautioned against compromising quality in the name of inclusivity. “Our push for local content must be matched with professional standards. We must not allow substandard jobs to threaten the future we are building,” Abdulbaki stated. He further advocated for cross-ministerial collaboration with technical experts to enhance project outcomes and ensure accountability.

Responding to the call, the State Commissioner for Works, Engr. Abdulquawiy Olododo, praised KW-PPA’s oversight role and reiterated his Ministry’s commitment to professionalism and high-quality service delivery.

“The Ministry of Works continues to engage qualified professionals to deliver standard projects,” Olododo said. “Local content is not just a policy direction but a commitment we have upheld under my leadership.”

He acknowledged the challenges posed by some local contractors and stressed the need for increased scrutiny to curb inflated budgets and ensure value for money in project execution.

The high-level meeting was attended by key stakeholders, including Permanent Secretaries from the Ministries of Works, Transport, and Energy — Mr. Anthony Gana Abu, Alh. Salahu Abdullahi Kabiru, and Elder Afolabi Olaitan — alongside senior officials from KW-PPA and other government agencies.
