Kenya: Fidelity Insurance partners with M-TIBA for tech-driven cover

Fidelity Insurance has teamed up with the health insurance technology platform M-TIBA to launch ‘My Afya Shield,’ a health coverage product centered on leveraging technology for health and wellness.

This partnership marks a notable evolution in health insurance, placing a greater emphasis on preventive healthcare rather than focusing solely on curative treatments.

‘My Afya Shield’ provides a wide range of benefits, encompassing treatments, access to vaccines, counselling services, support for mental wellness, rehabilitation services, and personalized wellness programs.

Additionally, the product includes standard coverage for alcohol and drug abuse rehabilitation, along with regular health check-ups.

My Afya Shield is underwritten by Fidelity Insurance and is accessed on M-TIBA’s digital health insurance platform, seamlessly connecting Fidelity members to a vast network of healthcare providers.

Members of My Afya Shield can initiate treatments through the M-TIBA App and USSD, monitor benefits and limits in real-time, review claims, and easily locate and access care at healthcare providers.

Additionally, members can easily add family members as their dependents.

Through M-TIBA, members have the autonomy to manage their healthcare needs independently and efficiently while accessing support 24/7 if necessary.

Members receive a user-friendly experience that prioritises their health and well-being, allowing them to navigate the complexities of healthcare with confidence and ease.

Fidelity Insurance managing director Richard Marisin termed “My Afya Shield cover”, an innovative and comprehensive health coverage product that directly caters for the needs of Kenyans.

“In partnership with M-TIBA, we will enhance My Afya Shield’s medical coverage for members, groups, and SMEs by leveraging a robust tech-enabled system capable of instant approvals, simplified hospital access to providers across the country, and instant benefits access through the mobile phone,”Marisin said.
